Natasa Miljkovic, MD, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

           

             I am an orthopedic surgeon from Novi Sad, Serbia, Europe. My hometown is most famous for a music festival called “EXIT” which takes place every summer at an old fortress overlooking the Danube river. While you are there listening to great music you can have great food and wine and meet a lot of friendly people. Don’t miss it, if you are near by.

            I graduated from Medical School in Novi Sad, Serbia, as one of the top ten students of my generation. After graduating, I did my Master Thesis in Biomedical Engineering Field at the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia. My master thesis is about preventing total hip prosthesis dislocation. During my residency in Orthopedic Surgery I started working on my PhD Thesis which is about the use of bone allografts in revision hip arthroplasty. After completing it, I became very interested not only in surgical treatment of osteoarthritis, but in other types of treatment as well (joint lubricants and nutritional supplements).

            This interest brought me to this lab and all my current projects are connected with cartilage and soft tissue repair.

Novel polymer-based hydrogel

(bioscaffold for growth factors or ASCs which is currently used to fill osteochondral defects and/or soft tissue defects.

            My major personal interests are: tennis, pilates and yoga, movies, music and traveling.
